Increasing Multiplication Fact Fluency
Grouping Students:
Tier I (knows 80% of the 55 facts)
Tier II (knows 1, 10, 5, 2 and about 50% of the rest)
Tier III (knows less than 50% of facts and does not know 10, 5, or 2)
Tier I:
games to build number sense and apply strategies involving the properties of operations, e.g., If I know, than I know
Tier II:
Games to reinforce and build where students have 80%+ automaticity
Strategies to develop deeper conceptual understanding where students have less than 80% automaticity
Tier III:
Revisiting the concept of multiplication consistently using visual models and math tools
Games from practicing concepts and strategies
Strategic exposure to facts in select sequence
