April 12, 2021 Session at Webber Elementary
This was a coaching session. Teachers were observed and then we had a debriefing. Below are some recommended resources:
Fractions Progression by Graham Fletcher
Video.link (to capture and crop YouTube videos without all the other videos)
Fractions Splat for Grades 3 - 5 by Steve Wyborney
Musical Fractions (site is limited due to Flash not being supported anymore)
Alternative #1 (not the same, but gives information about fractions and musical notes)
Building Vocabulary:
Games
Graphic Organizers:
Verbal Visual Word Association
Frayer Model
Recommendations:
Make word problems visual by color coding each sentence to make it easier for the students to unpack the problem a line at a time. Use images of things in the problems.
Display work on an interactive whiteboard for all students to see.
Use visuals so kids can “see” vocabulary terms.
